Details you should know about the day:
Drop off, welcome and free time.
Activities are provided during this time.
This is a great time to talk to me about any daily details and observe your child in a social atmosphere. Parents are always welcome to spend as little or as much time with us during the day and are encouraged to pop in whenever and lend a hand.
Pledge of allegiance, trash to treasure, add color to the flag, president of the week, History
Recycling and reusing are core principals of the HAUS philosophy. Each day we encourage students to bring items to class that can be used in our daily projects. We will sort these as a group during trash to treasure. We do this in a show and tell format. With your registration packet we will give you examples of things students can bring, but the 2 simple guidelines are: the item should not be able to easily pass through the center of a toilet paper roll (for choking reasons) and the item should be clean and non-toxic. Great examples are cereal boxes, old fabric, plastic bottles with interesting shapes, large lids, soy-milk containers, washed popsicle sticks…the sky is the limit! The idea is to reuse items in ways we never imagined and make students conscious of how to keep things out of the landfill via their imaginations!
Each child gets an chance to have individual tutoring daily. What the the child focuses on daily will vary from child to child.
Snack recess…we provide an afternoon vegetarian snack based on our nutrition lesson for the day. Morning snack should be packed separately from the students lunch and be easy to get to. Please also provide an extra change of clothes for your child in case of potty accidents. These clothes will stay at the school nightly.
Music class… we teach rhythm and reading notes on a treble clef daily.
If you would like a music teacher to provide individual lessons to your budding Mozart, we may be able to provide the space and opportunity for your child to take these lessons during regular school hours, however this will be done at an additional cost to the parent.
Art Class: Your child will get dirty during art class. We provide lab coats to protect clothes during many messy activities, but please save your “Sunday Best” for Sunday and send your kids in clothes that can get glue and paint and clay and dirt on them.
Lunch and Manners
Lunch is served at 12:00. We strive for good manners at the HAUS and these will be listed in your registration packet. Please send your child with a cold lunch and drink. We will provide ice water throughout the day and we provide an afternoon vegetarian snack based on our nutrition lesson for the day. Parents provide a morning snack and this should be packed separately from the students lunch and be easy to get to.
Story Time and Rest Time
Parents are asked to provide a small, washable rug or blanket that fits in their child’s cubby.
The small blanket/rug will be left at HAUS nightly. These rugs will be used to rest on during the students daily rest time and will be washed by HAUS weekly.
Afternoon quiet time lasts about 20-25 minutes and a story is read aloud during this rest period.
Children are asked to close their eyes and imagine what the story about.
If a child does fall asleep during this time, the next activities we do are inside where the director can still see your sleeping child, so depending on individual parental wishes, we may or may not wake the student.
Kids will get dirty during this time in the garden. If you have a special event right after school, we can arrange for your child to change into different clothes at the end of the day, or when you pick your child up after school you are more than welcome to use the bathroom to dress your child in different clothes.
Student Pick Up:
